Democratic lawmakers have made public a fresh batch of what they described as "troubling" pictures from the estate of adjudicated sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including among others Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and former British royal Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The first release of 19 images—a portion of which have been seen before—combined with another 70 issued later on Friday constitute a minuscule portion of the almost 100,000 images handed over to the House investigative panel, which is looking into the actions and ties of Epstein.
The disgraced financier died by an apparent self-inflicted death in a New York detention cell in 2019 after being accused of sex-trafficking offenses.
Featured among the prominent personalities shown in the opening set are well-known figures including movie maker Woody Allen; Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates; and Richard Branson, creator of the Virgin business group.
Donald Trump is featured in three of the initial 19 images. In one, he is seen with six women, whose faces are blacked out.
The White House reacted to the release in a statement, alleging Democrats of purposefully "hand-picking" the images for political purposes and to "try and create a false storyline."
"This Democratic fabrication against President Trump has been repeatedly debunked," an administration official said, insisting that "the Trump administration has accomplished more for Epstein's survivors than Democrats have ever done by frequently urging disclosure, releasing numerous documents of papers, and demanding more inquiries into Epstein's liberal connections."
The images were released lacking captions, but as stated by a California Democrat and senior member of the oversight committee, they elicit additional doubts about Epstein's associations with wealthy individuals.
"Now is the occasion to end this White House concealment and bring justice to the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and his well-connected allies," he said in a comment.
The release of these materials coincides with the House panel pressing on with its inquiry into the Epstein matter.
