A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to support Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a group of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was crafted by a group of music creators. The song features a fusion of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the campaign have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a representative said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the region was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is above all making this cause better known and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
