It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
