The Liverpool midfielder has shared that the Egyptian forward said sorry to the group of players in the wake of the controversy from his televised remarks.
Salah was left out from a European match after voicing frustrations and stating his rapport with Arne Slot had soured.
“Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff,” Jones told Sky Sports. “He apologised to us and was like: ‘If I’ve affected anybody, I apologise.’”
The head coach has refused to comment publicly on whether he received a personal apology from the player.
Jones insisted that the team's response remained positive. “Nothing about him changed, his demeanour was positive and we all treated him normally,” he continued.
Jones also suggested that a player's desire to start is less of an issue. “It's clear there are certain ways you can handle situations,” he said. “Yet, should someone be happy to just not start, then I think that’s a bigger problem.”
Liverpool's form have remained strong in the matches since the interview fallout. Jones believes the outburst were not designed to destabilise the squad.
“When there’s been any sort of anger, the source has been from a place of caring,” Jones concluded. “That chapter is closed and we’re building chemistry, performing and securing victories.”
