Baroque Works is poised to exert significant influence in the forthcoming season on Netflix of One Piece, though the true confrontation won’t take place until the next season, and a cherished, popular member has now been chosen.
Netflix announced this week that the skilled actor is now part of the One Piece cast for the third season and will play Mr. 2. This character has the ability to transform into an exact copy of any individual they’ve touched with their dominant hand. Escola, who is identifies as non-binary and prefers they/them pronouns, will play a rendition of that role re-envisioned as non-binary, rather than as a drag artist, in the real-life adaptation, unlike the initial comic and animated series.
The new cast member will work alongside multiple new cast members set to bring Baroque Works to reality, such as head Mr. 0, brought to life by the seasoned performer, Sophia Anne Caruso as another operative, and a familiar face, who is also part of the cast as the ruler of Alabasta.
Though this character is a key figure of the organization, the character won’t appear until One Piece the third season. Considering the second season set to cover the Little Garden arc, this represents a notable change in the placement of their first appearance, one that could indicate more adjustments to the story’s structure.
Their mix of precise humor and profound feeling makes them a standout choice for the role. Besides their latest vocal work in the animated coming-of-age film Boys Go to Jupiter, they earned widespread acclaim and several accolades for writing and starring in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, highlighting the adaptability they’ll contribute to one of One Piece’s widely praised characters.
The platform’s adapted One Piece program is scheduled to come back for its next installment on March 10th, 2026.
