Arsenal's manager voiced genuine worry regarding the captain's knock to the knee after the Norwegian was forced off during a two-nil win which maintained their challenge on Liverpool in the Premier League.
The skipper departed the stadium with support on the injured knee after a collision with an opponent in the first period.
The England midfielder also had to be withdrawn in the second half because of a back problem, casting doubt over his fitness for upcoming internationals.
"He had a clash directly on the knee, and straight away he was uncomfortable," the manager remarked. "I just spoke with him, he's concerned about it, he's wearing a brace. We'll have to wait for the results of the medical examination."
The condition of the captain – who became the inaugural player ever in the Premier League to be substituted in three successive matches in the first half – is causing significant concern for Arteta.
"We haven't had him from the beginning of the season for one reason or the other, shoulder problems previously and then this latest knock," he added. "As our skipper, and is a player who provides unique qualities, particularly in attacking."
Regarding Rice, Arteta commented: "He's not all right since he asked me to come off, which is unfortunate. He had pain in his back and couldn't continue, which is something quite rare for him, so we'll have to assess him and see how he is."
The winger, who scored a penalty in his 200th top-flight game, emphasized the team's resolve to correct past losses at the Emirates against West Ham.
"It showed the progress we've achieved," Saka stated. "We were determined to make amends in this match. We know the quality we have in attack and we know if we keep a clean sheet we will probably emerge victorious the game."
Nuno Espírito Santo, in charge of his second match after taking over from Graham Potter, faces a tough task as the team remaining in the relegation zone.
"This week was full of fresh tests, novel situations, many adjustments," he acknowledged. "I think the international break is going to be very useful in terms of settling down thoughts and focus, yet every facet of our play needs improvement."
