The City of Angels witnessed citywide celebrations after the Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-match World Series championship. Fans across the globe united with Angelenos in jubilation, marking the first time in 25 years that a team has secured back-to-back championships.
Local celebrations included a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a reserved-seating event at Dodger Stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Online footage show countless of Angelenos packing city center avenues, many carrying handmade banners and team flags. The team was seen riding high on a double-decker bus through the masses, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy proudly.
“I’m already thinking about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” the star player remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path concluded at the stadium, where the team walked out to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with the renowned DJ providing music and Ice Cube driving a Pacific blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Celebrations began prior to the procession, with Dodgers fans lighting fireworks in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles on the previous evening.
The World Series MVP, awarded the MVP of the championship, spoke directly about the win.
“We refuse to lose,” Yamamoto said. “I adore this team. This city means everything to me.”
However, the team owner received a less warm welcome at the celebration. Video footage from the gathering appear to show Walter taking the stage to a combination of cheers and boos, with negative shouts interrupting his speech.
The championship served as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for Los Angeles. An estimated 225,000 people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, supporters this year showed as much if not more enthusiasm.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” Freeman said. “The supporters are incredible. It’s so awesome to be a involved in this.”
