Lindsey Vonn Optimistic of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of earning a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup competitions.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "After that, I skied well. I'm happy with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 as a result of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure.

With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She has one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup circuit features a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
