Kabul Accuses Its Neighbor of Breaching Sovereign Territory

Afghanistan's ruling authorities has alleged Pakistan of infringing upon Afghanistan's "national airspace", describing it as an "unprecedented, forceful, and provocative act".

The charge comes after two loud blasts resounded across the city during Thursday evening.

The Pakistani military had additionally struck a public marketplace in the border province of a southeastern district, in the country's eastern borderlands, the Taliban Defence Ministry said in a statement on Friday morning. Local inhabitants stated that several storefronts had been destroyed.

Pakistan has remained silent on conducting an operation within Afghan borders.

Meanwhile, during a public statement held in the city of Peshawar on Friday, a senior military officer alleged that the neighboring country was being used as a "base of operation for terrorism against the nation".

"To protect Pakistani lives and properties, what measures need to be taken are to be carried out," the military spokesperson stated further.

The Pakistani administration has consistently alleged the Taliban government of permitting the Pakistan Taliban, also known as the TTP, to use Afghan soil. Kabul's leadership have repeatedly rejected such allegations.

Speculation had emerged that the detonations heard over Kabul were part of a precision strike on the TTP's leader, the militant commander.

In response, the militant group issued an audio recording from their leader saying he was unharmed.

The precise events is unclear; observers on the ground reported no visible damage in the reported area of the blasts on Friday, but did report a significant security deployment and mobile checkpoints.

Afghan defense officials warned in its statement that, should the situation become worse, "the consequences are the responsibility of the neighboring military".

Nonetheless, the Taliban's foreign minister - who is currently in the city of Delhi - stated they wanted to maintain positive ties with their neighbor.

"Pakistan ought to refrain from these measures," Amir Khan Muttaqi addressed a small gathering of journalists. "The bilateral concerns can be solved by dialogue instead of military action."
