Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.

Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

It said debris fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
