The Italian Prime Minister has sharply criticized the chief of the country’s biggest labor union after he described Meloni as “the courtesan” of former US President Donald Trump.
Maurizio Landini, leading Italy’s CGIL labor organization, made the statement during a television appearance this Tuesday. This occurred after global figures, Meloni among them, attended a Middle East peace summit held in Egypt.
The union leader accused the Prime Minister of “doing nothing” to advance peace in Gaza, stating her participation was limited to “acting as Trump’s courtesan”. Luckily, Italian people took to the street to uphold the honor and dignity of the nation,” he said.
Via an online post this Thursday, the Prime Minister declared that the union chief was clearly blinded by growing bitterness (that I comprehend)”. She went on to post a meaning of the term “courtesan”.
“I think it is widely understood the usual interpretation attributed to this term, but, for the benefit of those who might not, I am sharing the top definition located via a brief online search,” Meloni explained, attaching a image that said: “Woman of loose morals, heterosexual; polite expression, prostitute.”
She also criticized her left-leaning critics, noting that over many years they had preached to us on gender equality” only to then disparage a woman by “calling her a prostitute”.
Replying to the post, the union leader argued that there were “no gender-based slurs” directed at Meloni and that the term was meant to imply “an underling to Trump”.
Through an official comment, he clarified: “Over a short TV segment, which anyone can easily rewatch, to avoid any misunderstanding or twisting of the words, I promptly explained the sense of my words – that Meloni was trailing behind Trump, she was at Trump’s court, she acted as Trump’s subordinate.”
Meloni has long nurtured friendly relations with President Trump. In a public address during the Middle East event, the US President addressed the Italian Prime Minister – the lone woman in attendance – and complimented her beauty. “In the United States, it would be career-ending,” he noted. “But I’ll take the risk. May I comment that you are beautiful? As you are indeed beautiful.”
The US president later praised Meloni as “an inspiration to all” in concerning the English edition of her book, I Am Giorgia: My Roots, My Principles, which includes a introduction by Donald Trump Jr..
In August, Meloni responded firmly after finding out that altered images of her and other prominent Italian women had been shared on a adult site, expressing her disgust, and expressing “solidarity and support to all the women who have been insulted, offended, and abused”.
