The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
