British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.

Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
