Accused Stalker Inquired: 'Yet Imagine I Might Be Madeleine?'

A individual accused with harassing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a voicemail message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has persistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned phone records and data recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over the past two years.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most covered child disappearance cases and continues to be unresolved.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

One voicemail, shared in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine was, but I believe what I believe."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Is that not crucial for you?"

"I do not need money, I have a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the message continued.

The panel was told that via emails, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a bid to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who gathered the data, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."

That day Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will persist and I plan to establish my claim."

The court heard Mrs Spragg struck up a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in last December.

Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted via communication app to Mrs McCann to say the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be taken seriously in the time leading up to the appearance to that location, the county, in last December.

The court heard communications between the two individuals, in that autumn, discussing trying to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from cutlery at a restaurant.

"We need to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the appearance to their house, the defendant sent a text which stated: "We are sat outside the McCanns' home with our lights out similar to investigators. I desired to do this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."
